Training

We run regular training courses covering all aspects of communications both technical and operational.

The programmed courses are listed below and if you click on the link you will get more information, prices and forthcoming course dates.

We also specialise in the design and delivery of bespoke courses, tailored to your specific requirements. We understand that it isn't always practical or cost effective to bring staff back to the U.K. for training. For this reason, any of our courses can take place either in the U.K. or at any suitable location worldwide. This includes hostile and high risk environments where other companies may not wish to venture!

Commercial Radio Programming

This 2 day residential course covers the fundamentals of modern radio programming.  Most modern commercial radios require the use of specialist software and programming leads before any changes can be made.  These differ between manufacturers but many of the principles are the same as is much of the terminology.

Starting with the basics this course will guide you through the various types of programming software and hardware and give you hands on practice with some of the most popular radios currently in use in the commercial sector.

At the end of the course you will be able to confidently approach the task of radio programming even if you are required to programme a radio that you have never seen before. More details (Coming Soon)

Basic Radio

This 5 day residential course is designed to provide a good basic understanding of a variety of forms of radio communications from HF (shortwave) to microwave.  It is principally aimed at those working overseas where two-way radio is the primary form of communications.

Beginning with communications theory to lay the foundation, the syllabus goes on to cover different types of RF propagation, UHF & VHF radio systems, HF radio systems, antennas and radio programming.  There is also a short session covering communications network planning and installation although this is the subject of another course in its own right.

The course will also provide students with the chance to become familiar with the operation and programming of a variety of commercial communications equipment currently in use around the world. More details (Coming Soon)

Communications Network Planning & Installation

The Network Planning & Installation course is designed for individuals with a good working knowledge of radio and satellite equipment so is not for complete beginners.

Students will be expected to be familiar with basic communications theory, concepts and terminology.

This course builds on that existing knowledge and develops a deeper understanding of how standalone and integrated communications networks operate.  Through a number of realistic scenario based exercises, the course begins with the design of simple, single technology networks.  It then moves on to explore how these networks can be integrated to provide a more complete and functional solution.

Finally it covers the practical aspects to be considered when physically implementing and installing  a network and introduces some of the various techniques that will help to ensure smooth and continuing operation. More details (Coming Soon)

Workshop Practices

Designed for anyone who has an occasional need to use a soldering iron, put a plug onto a coaxial cable or use a multimeter.

This course won't turn you into a technician overnight but it will give you the confidence to tackle those occasional engineering tasks that may hitherto have seemed daunting.

You will learn how to select the right tool for the job and how to use those tools correctly.  A lot of time will be spent learning how to correctly terminate both solder and crimp RF connectors onto various different types of coaxial feeder.  You will also learn how and when to use basic type of test equipment and how to interpret the readings that you take.

This is a hands-on highly practical course.  Ideal for anyone who wants to be able to get more involved in the day to day maintenance of their systems with complete confidence. More details (Coming Soon)
